AKC CAR was founded in 1995 to help reunite lost pets with their owners. With this goal in mind,
AKC CAR provides 24-hour recovery services for pets that are identified with a microchip, tattoo, or AKC CAR collar tag. AKC CAR, located in Raleigh, NC, is an affiliate of the American Kennel Club and is the nation's largest non-profit recovery service provider.

All animals are eligible for enrollment in AKC CAR regardless of identification brand or type, microchip, tattoo or AKC CAR collar tag. The newly designed AKC CAR database stores nearly 3 million enrollment records and has been used to perform over 315,000 recoveries.
