NOISE PHOBIA..THERE IS HELP!
CANINE NOISE PHOBIA

Summer is upon us and so are the scary noises of Thunderstorms and Fireworks. It is unknown why some pets become afraid of noises and others don’t, but the fear can soon become a “phobia”. It is a phobia when the fear is out of proportion to the danger of the real situation. Unfortunately, this is too common in Florida where thunderstorms are sometimes a daily occurrence. Royal Palm Veterinary Hospital receives many calls from families who feel that they can no longer deal with their pet’s fearful actions and sometimes destructive behavior.
How can we help?
Prepare a safe place for your pet to go, a crate in a quite area, or an area of the home like a laundry room or bathroom.
Keep lights low and play soothing music loud enough to help drown out the outside noise
Try to settle your pets in prior to the night’s activities, be reassuring, but not overly comforting.
Most important, our veterinarians can give you advice on Natural and Pharmaceutical medications to help your pet ride out the storm in a calmer state.
Be sure you pet has permanent identification! Unfortunately, it is common for a pet to run from the noise and lose their way home. Ask a staff member for more information on the the easy and painless Microchip ID System!
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to call our office and speak to one of our veterinarians. 954-344-5466
